Secret life of Things animations in MELBOURNE NOW exhibition
I am extremely excited that the 2 animations I made for EcoInnovators"Secret Life of Things" project have been included in the MELBOURNE NOW exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV). The 2 animation "Life Pcycle-ology" and "This is your Life cycle" address educational content relating to Sustainable design theory and are aimed at upper secondary students.
"Potentia" exhibition at 45 downstairs
In September I held a solo exhibition of my recent paintings at 45 downstairs in the city. The show was called "Potentia" and included a body of work spanning 2 years of studio time. Here are a few snaps from the show and a small part of the artist statement.
“It is clear that of those things that seem to be substances,
most are potentialities: the parts of animals (for none of them is separated;
when separated all of them are like matter) and earth and fire and air; for none
of these are one, but they are like a heap until they are concocted and some
one thing comes out of them"
Aristotle
,Metaphysics Z (1040b5-10)
The works in
this series depict imagined spaces of ongoing negotiation and exchange, bristling
with the energies of transformation, impermanence and renewal.

summary of good things from 2013
Wow it's been eons since I updated this blog. Here's a brief summary of some activities from 2013 just in time for the start of 2014.
"Re-collection" received a lot of exposure in 2013 screening at a number of local and International film festivals including The Melbourne International Animation Festival and The London international Animation Festival. I was particularly excited of it's inclusion in the SEMAFOR International Stop-motion festival in Poland. In addition to this it screened on SBS Tv as part of the tropfest collection "The Sacrifice"
Finally the film was included in the Halloween addition of an ipad/iphone magazine "Go Social Film Magazine". You can download the app free here and then upload the various editions of the mag. "Recollection" is in issue 4 . You can download the app here:

Re-collection on the festival circuit
"Re-collection" has begun to screen on the international festival circuit. In recent months it has been selected to be screened at Short Film Corner in Cannes and has very recently screened at Animation block Party in NYC, where I am happy to say it was awarded "best original design" for the festival. Hurrah! here's a snap of it on the big screen in Brooklyn (thanks to Jeffrey Y.)
This Is Your Life Cycle
After several months of animating away in the background the second educational animation in the "Secret Life of Things" series for EcoInnovators has gone live. It is called "This is your Life Cycle" and aims to teach high school students about Life Cycle Assessment. Here are a couple of stills from the finished film. The full animation can be seen at:

Re-collection
I have just completed a new short stop-motion animation called "Re-collection". This 3 minute film is a sequel of sorts to my 2005 AFC funded short, "The Luminary". It was included in the final 25 for Tropfest 2012, but sadly despite its popularity in an online competition to be the 16 th finalist, it was not chosen to be part of the final 16. Here are a couple of stills from the film.
